Free DIY Book Publishing on CreateSpace

We're about ready to publish our first hardcopy book through Amazon's CreateSpace and are working on getting the illustrations in place and finalizing the format. All I can say is WOW!!! Amazon really makes this easy - and it's FREE if you do it yourself.

The website tells you everything you need to know but you can also choose to pay for professional help, if you want. After working on the formatting, I can see that the cost may be totally worth it to some folks, especially those who only plan to publish one book. But we're planning to do this several more times so are dedicated to learning the ropes.

Do you have a book you'd like to publish? Well, now is the time! Publish your book with CreateSpace: get high royalties, low book prices, and expanded distribution. What are you waiting for?

  1. Congratulations!! I had no idea you were working on a book - that's pretty awesome. How long did it take you from start to finish?

Can't wait to see your book in print! Pat yourself on the back because you deserve it. :)

    Cheers,

    Christina

    1. Thanks, Christina! I'm not the author of this one, however. It's a whimsical tale my MIL wrote for the grandkids that's been on Kindle for a while. She's always wanted to give them hardcopies and now with CreateSpace, she can!

My part in all this is as proofer/editor/formatter and all around grunt! I also found an illustrator and he did an amazing job - really added to the book. The fun part is she knows nothing about all this - we're going to surprise her next month on her 83rd.

As for how long it's taken - I discovered in May or June that somehow an unedited version had been uploaded to Kindle. What happened to the final version is unknown but I quick-like did an edit and re-uploaded. Around the same time, I found out about CreateSpace and started on a more thorough edit for print. So it's been just a two or three months but several weeks of that were spent enjoying summer and waiting for the illustrations. Now we're trying to get it finalized and uploaded to CreateSpace but are running into some problems with image quality that we need to resolve. So we're almost there...
